Issey Miyake: bringing artisanal perfume to the mainstream
Born in 1932, Japanese designer Issey Miyake is an advocate of classic style. His designs have flown off shop shelves since the 1970s when he first graduated in design and launched his clothing collection. Proving that classic style can’t be beaten, his fanbase extends all around the globe and even includes Steve Jobs. After commenting that he enjoyed Miyake’s classic black turtlenecks, he received 100 of them from Miyake himself - they’re now integral to his signature look!
When it comes to perfume, the Issey Miyake fragrances are just as well-loved. With a wide range of eau de toilettes, perfumes, colognes, floral scents, musks and more, they’ve become household favourites since their launch in 1992.
There’s something that sets the Issey Miyake fragrances apart from other perfumes on the market: their traditional, artisan nature.
Despite the contemporary aromas of the finished products, Miyake is devoted to traditional techniques when handcrafting a new cologne or perfume. Skilled craftsmanship is imperative to all his work, as is a scent’s connection to the body and environment. Both thought and care go into each drop of an Issey Miyake fragrance - something you’ll appreciate as soon as you smell them!
Artisan - what does it mean?

We hear this word in all spheres today, relating from coffee to woodwork and much more. An artisan is a worker in a skilled trade, usually someone who makes things by hand. Artisans span back generations, encompassing centuries of textiles, ceramics and leather goods.
What is an artisanal perfume?

The world of perfume is no different to other artisanal trades. Decades of work goes into training one’s nose to identify all number of scents. Knowing which accords to pair is no less than an art form!
Issey Miyake is an expert when it comes to combining flowery scents with woody scents, citrus notes and oriental accords.

Issey Miyake fragrance spotlight: L'Eau d'Issey Eau de Toilette (100ml)

Of all the Issey Miyake fragrances, few are as well-loved as this elegant blend. With a floral scent at its heart, this delicate perfume bursts with rose, lotus and lily. Rose and lotus greet the senses first for a fresh, flowery scent that lingers in the air. Lily is the most delicate and captivating of all the aromas, used as a heart note and cocooned by the more flirtatious scents of rose and lotus.
Avoiding an overly sweet aroma, L'Eau d'Issey is balanced with base notes of sandalwood and musk. These layered woody scents give the fragrance both depth and character. Like other Issey Miyake fragrances, this perfume is inspired by the strong and confident female. The sophisticated blend of ingredients aims to enhance her feminine nature while invigorating her strong and dynamic character. The fragrance is presented in a subtle triangular bottle that will enhance any bedside table or cabinet. The perfect balance of traditional artisan techniques and modern-day ingredients!
